PS Tower

With a height of 380 ft (115 m), designed to reduce the visual impact due to its size. This is the reason that, seen from a side, it hardly has 26 ft (8 m) wide, although the front section has a length of 59 ft (18 m).

The receiver is located on the tower upper section, where the heliostats direct the solar radiation, and was designed by Abengoa Solar R&D department. This receiver is composed by four vertical panels of 18 ft (5.5 m) wide and 39 ft (12 m) height located on a semicylindrical configuration and housed on a square opening of 11 m per side. It is what is called a cavity receiver. The inside is covered with refracting devices over which a water circuit is located.

Under normal conditions, the receiver is capable of supplying 55MWt of saturated steam at 500 ºF (250ºC) and 40 bars, with a yield higher that 92% in respect of the incidental power.
