PV Plants with Trackers

Solar tracking PV technology is suitable for areas of medium to high irradiation. Years of experience and more than 7 GW installed worldwide demonstrate the proven reliability and performance of this technology. Additionally, tracking PV systems are used by various markets because of their distributed energy potential and low maintenance costs.

  • Photovoltaic: Modular and Distributed
PV technology can satisfy any type of electricity requirement, small or large, because of its modularity and distributed capabilities. Because they are modular, PV systems can be built for large plants or small customized installations. Because it has distributed capabilities it can provide electricity in areas where no grid connection is available.
  • Photovoltaic: Easy building integration
Recent advances in semiconductor technology have expanded the usefulness of PV systems for buildings. While single-crystalline silicon semiconductors are typically used on roofs of buildings, thin film technology makes it possible to install PV systems as part of windows and facades.

The technology that Abengoa Solar installs with its tracking PV systems, Copero PV, is proprietary.

The technology

Abengoa Solar installs PV systems that use 1-axles and 2-axles tracking. Tracking the sun results in significantly higher performance when compared to fixed PV systems. 1-axles tracking improves yield by about 20% and 2-axles tracking improves yield by about 35%.

Research and development

Abengoa Solar invests heavily in the R&D of new photovoltaic materials and designs. Abengoa Solar's research groups collaborate with institutions and research centers to improve concentration, thin film and conventional silicon technology. The PV laboratory assesses the performance of different PV technologies.
