Solúcar Platform

Location: Sanlúcar la Mayor, Sevilla

Type of Project: The platform has 300 MW use: 50 MW from tower technology, 250 MW obtained from troughs, 1.2 MW produced by photovoltaic technology, and 80 MW from dish Stirling technology.

Abengoa Solar is committed to realizing the potential of solar energy technologies as a means of contributing to sustainable development, protecting the environment and conserving our natural resources. The platform located in Sanlucar la Mayor, by the time it is finished in 2013 will have 300 MW of installed capacity. It will produce enough energy to supply 153,000 households, and will prevent the emission of 185.000 tons of CO2 per year. During the lifespan of the platform it will reduce an estimated 4 million tons of CO2 emissions.

The platform covers a land area of 800 hectares, will create 300 permanent jobs, and the total investment is 1,200 million Euros.

Currently, the platform has two plants that are operating and supplying grid electricity: Sevilla PV and PS10. Three plants are currently under construction: PS20, Solnova 1 and Solnova 3.

Sevilla PV trackers

Sevilla PV is the largest low-concentration (1.5x and 2.2x) PV plant in the world. It is composed of 154, two-axles tracking units. Each unit is 1076 ft2 (100 m2) in area. The plant delivers 2.4 GWh of electricity to the grid annually under the Special Regime production tariff.

The plant uses Abengoa Solar's proprietary Sevilla PV technology.

and PS20

The PS10 solar field is composed of 624, Sanlucar 120 heliostats. Each heliostat is 1291 ft2 (120 m2) in area. The heliostats concentrate solar radiation onto a receiver located on a 377 ft (115 m) high tower. The electricity produced by PS10 will be enough to supply electricity for 6000 homes.

and PS20 under construction

Currently, a second generation solar tower, PS20, is under construction at the Solucar Solar Park. This installation will have twice the capacity of PS10 and the ability to meet the electricity needs of 10,000 households. The solar field will consist of 1,255 heliostats (120 m2 each) and a 160 m tower. The PS20 receiver will directly generate steam and is a natural evolution of the PS10 technology. The design was driven by the need for safety and reliability in a commercial plant. Abengoa Solar will continue to pursue R&D to improve tower technology.

Solnova 1 and 3 (50 MW each):

Plants under Development

Within the Sanlúcar Platform, six plants are still under development:

Solnova 2, 4, 5 (150 MW):

Four 50 MW plants each, based on trough technology, similar to Solnova 1.

AZ20 (20 MW):

Tower technology plant with similar characteristics to PS20.

Aznalcóllar TH (80 kW):

Plant based on dish Stirling technology.
