The Solúcar platform held its second annual Open Day for residents of Sanlúcar la Mayor, coinciding with Andalusia Day.
Sevilla, March 7, 2008
Residents of the sevillian town of Sanlúcar la Mayor made the most of Andalusia Day by attending Open Day at the Solúcar platform. The event took place on February 28 and was organized by Abengoa Solar.
Throughout the second annual Open Day event, over 500 citizens enjoyed a guided tour of platform facilities, having the chance to get an up-close view of the first two solar power plants in operation: PS10, the world’s first commercial solar tower power plant, with 11 megawatts of installed power output capacity, and Seville PV, the world’s first commercial low concentration, two-axle suntracking photovoltaic power plant with an output capacity of 1.2 megawatts.
Visitors also got the chance to see the parabolic trough demonstration plant and find out about other research and development projects currently undergoing testing at the platform.
From 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., members of the Sanlúcar la Mayor community were provided with shuttle buses to take them from the La Corredera fairgrounds to the platform.
The huge success of the Open Day event was made possible thanks to the voluntary participation of Abengoa Solar employees who helped coordinate the event and provided explanations during the guided tours of the different power plants.
The Solúcar platform has aroused great interest in the sevillian municipality, and there have been repeated requests for further opportunities to visit the facilities. In response to this enthusiasm, Abengoa Solar will soon hold an Open Day event for Abengoa employees.
