The Prime Minister of Spain, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, visits the facilities of the Solúcar platform of Abengoa Solar.

The Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, visited the facilities of the Solucar platform, which Abengoa Solar is building in the municipal district of Sanlucar la Mayor (Seville). The Prime Minister and the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Manuel Chávez, who also attended the platform accompanied by high profile employees of the andalucian administration, were recieved by Felipe Benjumea and José Terceiro, president and vicepresident of Abengoa, respectively, and by Santiago Seage, president of Abengoa Solar.

The visit began with the participation of Felipe Benjumea and Santiago Segae. The president of Abengoa advocated for the creation of a stable regulatory framework for the renewable energy sector, both solar and bioenergy, which permits the market to develop in the long term, reporting that "without a market in which to sell what is being investigated, there is not future" In turn, the president of Abengoa Solar reminded people that the Solúcar platform is a worldwide benchmark that brings together the majority of solar technology in the world today.

In his speech, the Prime Minister noted what was said by the president of Abengoa and he committed to supporting renewable energy. Rodríguez Zapatero praised Abengoa’s activity, and categorized the company as "a leading international business." In addition, he stated that "with projects like those of plataforma Solúcar, we find ourselves on the cutting edge of the next industrial or economic revolution, which consists of the shift of dependence from fossil fuels to renewable energy."

Subsequently, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and Manuel Chávez visited the platform’s facilities and had the opportunity to climb to level 30 of the PS10, the Concentrating Solar Power plant with tower technology, from which they observed the heliostat field and Seville PV, the first plant that came into operation on the platform. They also visited the first parabolic trough demonstration plant in operation outside of the USA and the facilities of research and development of new technologies (I+D+i). The visit ended in the control room.

Currently the Solúcar platform has three plants in operation, the PS10, Concentrating Solar Power plant with tower technology, Sevilla PV, a low concentration photovoltaic plant. Both are the first commercial facilities in the world of their technology. In addition, three plants are under construction, one of Concentrating Solar Power plant with tower technology (PS20), and two other Concentrating Solar Power plants with trough technology (Solnova 1 and 3).
