Abengoa Solar has continuously invested in concentrating solar power (CSP) and photovoltaic technology (PV) research and development (R&D) since the company began. Abengoa Solar considers R&D to be a vital competitive tool, keeping Abengoa Solar at the forefront while maintaining a proprietary technology portfolio that can meet both customer needs and market cost reduction demands. Over 24 million euros, 14.4% of the company´s consolidated revenue, were invested in 2010 and a total over 100 million Euros since 2007.

Given the importance of R&D, legal protection of industrial and intellectual property advancements is critical. The company, therefore, holds priority rights to various key inventions. Eighty-six CSP and PV technology patent applications were registered over the last few years.
